Guiding Students to Thinking Critically About AI in Health Professions Education & Clinical Practice

Hosted by ASAHP’s Clinical Education Committee, this webinar will examine how artificial intelligence (AI) can be applied in clinical education, clinical practice, and research in the health professions. Participants will explore key applications of generative AI in health professions education and clinical practice, including its potential benefits and limitations for clinical reasoning, evidence-informed decision-making, and learner development. In this session, participants will also examine the uses of AI in scholarly work and identify practical strategies for integrating AI tools into research workflows while maintaining academic integrity, methodological rigor, and ethical standards.

Full Speaker Bios

Tara Mansour OTD, MS-HPEd OTR/L, is an Assistant Professor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where she leads initiatives focused on clinical education, curriculum innovation, and preparing practice-ready clinicians. Her work emphasizes strengthening academic–clinical partnerships and integrating data-informed and AI-enhanced approaches to improve student learning and clinical instructor development. Dr. Mansour has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented nationally on educational innovation and the use of generative AI in health professions education. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Professions Education, where her scholarship continues to focus on advancing clinical education, teaching innovation, and the use of generative AI across the health professions.

Guillermo Montes, Ph.D., is a professor in the Ed.D. in Executive Leadership program. He developed and teaches a doctoral-level course on AI and Leadership, and also teaches machine learning to undergraduate students. Dr. Montes has extensive expertise in quantitative research methods and program evaluation. His research, which often uses large national datasets, has been published in medical journals. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester.

Moderator Bio

Christopher W. O'Brien, Ph.D., LAT, ATC, FASAHP, FNAP, has been the inaugural Dean of Health Sciences at King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, since 2017. He collaborates with more than 33 faculty in 17 health sciences programs from the baccalaureate to the doctoral level across six disciplines, including the development of innovative programs in exercise science, nursing, nutrition, and occupational therapy, and the transition of the athletic training program to the master’s degree level. Dr. O’Brien is a Distinguished Public Policy Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) Athletic Training Academy and a Fellow of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP). He is the Chair of ASAHP’s Clinical Education Committee, a peer reviewer for the Journal of Allied Health, and the liaison between the NATA and ASAHP.
